quiet times

Nothing much to report. Had a very quiet weekend as I hate going out when it's a holiday! We did do a little geocaching and I picked up another TB. Can't seem to find a cache suitable for the one I already have but I can't resist a TB when I find one. This one had been in the cache for 2 months so it needed a change!

Spent most of my w/e sitting at my desk scrapbooking. Managed to do 3 one page lo's and 3 2 pg lo's for the cybercrop at LM so I'm very pleased about that.

S was recording some more of our old LP's to make them into MP3. We were listening to a range of music from Dr Hook and the medicine men to themes from the Bond movies and Paint your Wagon!! Dione Warwick, Cher and Andy Williams were also recorded. Great hearing all the oldies!

Star Wars!!

A arrived home about 2 this morning but from what I can gather he had a good time. His date did not dance with him so he danced with some girls who did not have a date with them. Her loss!!
A and I took the tux bacjk and I almost left $40 in the pockets but on double checking found it in time!!
Then we went down to Pt Loma to get some fitting for S's windsurfer and I thought we were going to have a meal out at the Brigantine. S changed his mind and took me to a grotty place that sells real ale that he goes to with his sailing buddies. Perhaps we got there at a bad time but the tables were dirty and the place looked worse for wear!! And we still hav'nt seen Star Wars!!

Prom

Much rushing about getting Tux and flowers. Nearly all came a cropper because A had not written down full address of the girl who has organised the limo and a party after the prom. But we drove slowly down the street to find the house with 665 as the last 3 digits and as A slipped inside with nery a glance back at me, I guessed we'd found the right house!
I must say he looked very handsome and well turned out in his tux. I was very proud.

It is our 22nd wedding anniversary today. Because of the Prom tomorrow we are not going away for our traditional weekend. We did not exchange cards as we don't normally bother.
We shall have a meal out somewhere nice and go and see Star Wars whe all the rush is over.
S bought me Phantom of the Opera DVD and more Ram and a video card for my Peecee, Yay!!

One for the road Posted by Hello

one for the road

Last week our son mentioned that his car was not sounding so good. We have had the Ford Tempo since we came to Amerika. It was our only car for 5 years which is quite a feat here!! But I was not working and the kid's school was within walking distance, so we managed.
Then I got a Geo Metro in 1995 and then S got the Van in 2000. We held onto the Tempo as we thought it would be handy for the kids to learn in and sure enough J learned to drive in it and passed her test too. We then got her an old Volvo from someone S works with and it was now A's turn. A was a reluctant driver and took a year to learn to drive but passed his test first time. He only drives to school or round to his friend's. He is not at all interested in how a car works so for him to notice it was sounding odd was a bit ominous.
S takes great pride in all the cars and even though he moans, he really likes to do straightforward repairs and maintenance. So s took it out for a run to see what the problem was and it broke down in the boonies on the edge of our town. We had it towed back home and it was sadly terminally done for. The drive shaft had broken and although the engine is still good, it is just not worth repairing. So today I had it towed away. The easiest and most painless way was to donate it to the local Public Broadcasting Service, they deal with all the paperwork, auction it off and let us know how much it was worth in about a month. A very sad day indeed. I was determined not to be upset but after it was gone I had a good cry!

New Chair

I was going to blog about my super new ergonomically contoured chair that I bought at Costco this weekend but I got tagged by Loisintheforest to talk about DVDs and movies

Number of films I own on DVD and video: my dvd's and videos get sucked into the great void beneath the various tv's scattered around the house but I would say that the DVDs owned and watched exclusivly by me would be about 10.
Last film I bought was The Return of the King
Last film I watched: Dance with Me
Five films I watch a lot: Star Wars, Back to the Future, Sabrina, Fellowship of the Ring and Pirates of the Caribeen.
Now I'm supposed to tag 5 people to do the same, but I don't know how to do the link thing properly!

everyone else on Simong.org has been tagged so just take your pick!!!

prom preps

Had to take son to rent his tux. for the prom. Neither of us was looking forward to this but the assistant was very efficient and soon got us sorted!! I must say I was pretty gobsmacked when a announced his intention to attend the prom, as when I had asked earlier he was adament that he would not be attending! But he asked a girl in his class to go with him and she agreed!! Good for him! He still does not know what colour her dress will be, even though I have asked him to find out nearly every day since being told he was going!! They have however discussed transportation and one brave parent has arranged a limo for the group!! So that's one less thing to worry about!!

airports

At work we had been talking about it being Friday the Thirteenth all day. This evening I had to go to the airport to pick up S after his week away business trip to Texas. I allowed myself 40 minutes to do the 20 minute journey and just as well as there was a game on a Petco Park (baseball) and the traffic through Balboa park was quite backed up. Anyway, I got parked and found my way to the luggage thingy where I was to wait. I had looked up the flight on a tracking website and knew exactly what gate and everything! the marvels of the web!! While waiting I watched the people coming and going and thought how brave all these people were to fly today!!
It was a great relief to see S wave to me from the mezzanine floor. He does not go on these business trips very often, thank goodness, and I'm very happy to have him home safe and sound.

finding the cache Posted by Hello

. Water tower dug into the hill. Posted by Hello

Eastern Fairbanks

This was a great area that we had not explored before, only 3 miles from our home! It was very steep and narrow canyon with a fast running stream at the bottom. Then a second steep and narrow canyon!! Up to the top where there was a water tower for all the new developement that will be built all too soon. On the second climb we had stopped , me for a rest, S to let me catch up, when just 30 feet in front of us and flying very low, a huge owl silently flew by and down in to the valley below us scaring several birds out of their bushes!! Very beautiful bird. We carrried on and made our way along a tarmaced road to the watertower and then up to a rocky viewpoint. S found the cache. We could see all the way to the sea but to the north east a devasted scene of flatterned earth waithing for the new houses that will be built. I just hope that these steep canyons will be preserved and the few remaining birds and animals will survive the upheaval. On the way back we saw two redtailed hawks and could hear some california quail in the bushes.
