scrap cat

my cat helping me scrap! Posted by Hello While I was reading the message board Coco decided the best place for him to sit was on my desk. He seemed completly asleep so I quietly got out my camera, which was by my side, as ever, and quickly took this photo. Just as I clicked the shutter his eyes opened! He's my little helper!!

We decided to go to Disneyland today. It is the last day of son's spring break and I was feeling guilty that we had not done anything together. Daughter wanted to go but did'nt want to drive and I felt that son was not ready for LA traffic. When I mentioned dl to dh, much to my surprise he said he'd like to go too, apparently a stressful day at work and various health issues made dl a pleasent alternative to work!!
I drove and after an initial moan about my speed ( I keep to the speed limit). J said 'perhaps mum should drive home when we're not in a hurry' and I said 'if you make another comment I'll pull over and you can drive' She put her jukebox on and I heard not another word!!
We went to the newest ride first which was Buzz Lightyear's Astro ride and we did not know what to expect. The line was long but that's part of the 'fun'! Anyway we eventually got to the front and the ride turned out to be a fairly slow ride through a lot of anamatronics firing lazers and we had lazer guns to fire back with!! At the end you could get a photo of you in the carriage with your score sent to your email. Then we had lunch and did all the other rides that are our favs. Pirates of the Carribean is still my v. favourite with Indiana Jones coming a close second.
We also had 2 tickets for the California Adventure Land, so J and I had a quick look in there and went on the Soarin' over CA ride which was much better that I thought it was going to be. We also went on the Grizzly River run which was a ride on a raft down a fast flowing 'river'. I got much wetter than I expected too. Then we went back to dl and met the others for the most exciting ride of all.......... the ride home!! A great day out and it didn't end in tears!!

boots

My car had to have some boots fitted today. S found that one boot had almost been torn off, so I got a lecture about potholes and their dangers. We booked it into the local bootmenders and after they had looked at the torn boot they recommended that the other boot should be replaced too, what a surprise!!. I had to drive our old Tempo to work today while my car was being fixed.
After getting my car back from the bootmenders I had to take it to get a smog test which took nearly an hour, so while I was waiting I went to Walmart for some retail therepy. So it was a very expensive day. $333.38 for new boots for the car $54 for the smog test and $25 for some bits and pieces from Walmart!

dentist

I almost forgot I had an appointment at the dreaded dentist today. I got home from work at about 1ish and made my lunch, pate on toast and then started to watch on the telly the craft show I had recorded earlier. I drifted of to sleep as last night we had an earthquake 4.0 just east of us and although I had gone back to sleep quite quickly afterwards it had still been an exciting but disturbing event. Anyhoo I woke up about 1:45 and decided to wash up the breakfast and lunch things. I had just started to run the water when the appointment popped into my head. It was 2:05 and my appointment was at 2:00 but luckily I only live a mile away so I was not too late. As I signed in the dentist's assistant was waiting for me at the door!!
I thought I was only having 1 tooth filling extracted and replaced but Atilla said while I was anethawatsited she might as well do all 4!! I can't say that it hurt as it didn't, it was just dreadfully uncomfortable. I kept feeling I was filling up and had to swallow. I'm sure in the list of world's worst jobs, dentistry must be way up at the top.
Now my mouth feels like it's full of cotton wool and my tongue is numb and my chin feels very strange indeed. I should'nt eat until 6ish which is OK. But could sure do with a nice cup of tea!!

lunch

I just broke my Pyrex casserole bowl!!I am alone today so i was going to have some leftovers for lunch. I took the bowl from the fridge and was about to transfer the yummy leftovers onto a plate, when the phone rang so I decided to put the whole thing in the microwave to heat while I chated to my dd. After a few moments there was a loud bang! I finished chatting to dd and when I went to get the bowl out of the microwave the bottom dropped out!! I guess food got too hot and the bowl couldn't take the temperature change!! the crack followed the height of the food all round!!
Never mind I'm thinking I've probably had that bowl for 20 odd yearss!! About time I had a new one!!It does'nt owe me anything!!

All week

All week I've had nothing to blog about and now two things come along together!!
After finishing work today I went into our local grocery store to do the w/e shopping. Nothing like good old sainsbos or tesco I can tell you!! I was pleased to see it was not crowded and was just selecting my cooked chicken when they announced a "cake walk' the girl on the tannoy (I don't suppost it's made by tannoy anymore but you know the thing I mean) told us to find a number on the floor and they would pick out a number and the winner would get a cake. Well I looked down and only a few feet away was the number 12, just in front of the deli and cake counter! I made my way over to the number and stood on it. There was a 10 second countdown and the announcer, who I could see behind the counter picked the number..................6 Oh well at least it made the shopping a little more intesting. The cake looked very nice too but I resisted the temptation to buy one!!

The second thing:
I had just sat down to eat my lunch after packing away the shopping, when my cat slipped in through the garage cat flap. He had a mouse!! It was dead but Coco looked so pleased with himself, he took it under the kitchen table and all my coaxing would not get him to take it outside. He was batting it up in the air and trying to get it to run away but it was not going anywhere!!
I hate it when the cats bring home their catch, they think they're so clever but at least it means he must be feeling better. S had to take him to the vet last week as he had a nasty cut on his chin which he kept opening up. It's a right game every evening when we have to give him a pill and some liquid medicine and rub some ointment on his chin. It took 5 trys to give him the pill the first night as every time I thought he had swallowed it and let him go he would spit it out!! Last night however we got not only the pill but the medicine down at first go!! We give him some cat crack (catmint)as dd calls it as a reward.

5 caches

We need to get some exercise and get ready for our holiday on the canals so I thought a walk with a cache to find would be just the ticket. I don't keep up with all the caches put down everyday so it was a pleaseant surprise to find a series of 5 on a circular walk less tha 4 miles away. Gas being nearly $2.50 a gal atm!!. The first 4 were all very original but S was always the first to find!! The fifth was a well camoflaged ammo can but I found it!!Yay!!
We really loved this series and thought it was great to get 5 caches in one evening, we don't get 5 in a weekend normally!! Loads of stuff in the ammo. I signed the log book and took the TB Bobber Bug. We left a mini butterfly windchime. After finding the cache we continued on towards the tunnel but on realising this would not take us back to the car we spotted a 'trail' migrant or coyote not sure which and decided to see where it went. Much to my relief although somewhat narrow in places it did eventually take us back to the parking lot!! I love a circular trail!! Oh did I mention. I found this one!! Yay!!GCN27A

Wasted food

Thanks to Maris Piper for this food for thought!!
We have a lot of 'all you can eat' restaurants here and it always make me crazy to see all the wasted food that people leave. Why pile your plate higher and higher if you are not going to eat it all. Is it the thought that you are getting a lot for your money? I don't know!! I've noticed recently that Souplantation now gives you a bowl to 'toss' your salad in, the idea that you put the tossed salad on your plate does not occur to some people and they eat from the bowl!!
